Description

Well, here is the last of my Disney Princess (in historical clothing) fan artwork!

I meant to put up Snow White last week but I had an art block (for the background) and didn't finish it until this past weekend. I didn't get a chance to scan this until yesterday. Thank you to those who have been waiting for this very patiently. :)

I based Snow White's outfit on the outfits women wore during the German Renaissance times in the late 1520's.

I thought Snow White (known as "Schneewittchen" in Deutsch/German) would go perfectly with this era & style of clothing. The original story of "Schneewittchen" was by the Grimm Brothers, in 1812. Since it is German, I made Snow White in the German Renaissance clothing. ;) I made her dress in the colours that Disney gave her, but I made the yellow into a gold instead.

The original story of Schneewittchen/Snow White is shorter than the Disney version a lot of people know. But to be honest with you, I like the Disney version better. In the original story, Snow White is only 7 years old...and a prince (who is assumed to be older) falls in love with her dead/unconcious body (after she eats the apple) and eventually marries her? :o Then again, most fairy tales are pretty messed stories where a lot of bad things happens...Disney sure sugar-coated them. ;p

As for the background of this painting, I based it a little bit off of a German manuscript from the 1500's. It had a bunch of trees & birds, so it gave me an idea what to do for a bg (since I am horrible at bg's).

Please take a look at my other Disney Princess fan art I have done (in the historical clothing):

This was finished on 5/10/09, the line art done with Copic Multiliners (0.05, 0.03, 0.1, 0.3, & 0.5). I coloured Snow White's skin & the blue & gold of her dress and the brown border with Copic Sketch Markers. Everything else is Koi Watercolours. The scanner killed my colours...the scanner was being bad...it didn't want to scan in the usual "Professional Mode" I always use. So I had to use "Home Mode" with doesn't really pick up the colours as well. Oh well, at least I have access to a scanner. :)
